Board Function |
Serves as the elected body of the Village. Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget and overseeing operations of the Village |
A board constituted under PA57 of 2018. The board of directors’ purpose is to revitalize the downtown district, assist with marketing and promotions, and retention and recruitment of business. |
The commission operates under PA 33 of 2008. Its primary function is to prepare and maintain a master plan for the Village, prepare and revise, as necessary, a zoning code for the Village and review site plans to ensure conformance with the zoning code. |
A board created under PA 110 of 2006, the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act. The purpose of the ZBA is to consider appeals and variances from the zoning code. |
Expectations |
Prepare the annual budget. Oversee operations of the Village. Respond to constituent issues. |
Prepare a development plan for the district. Assist in the retention and recruitment of business. Advocate for improvements to the district. Marketing and promotions. |
Prepare a community master plan. Prepare and revise a zoning ordinance that assists in the implementation of the master plan. Prepare an annual capital improvements program. |
Understand the zoning ordinance and its regulations. Conduct meetings as an appeal board. Consider requests to vary from the zoning code and its implications on the subject property and overall community. |

At least 50% of the board must have an interest in property in the DDA district. Residency preferred but not a requirement. |

Education |
Attend training session offered by the Michigan Municipal League and other organizations focused on local government affairs. |
Periodically attend the Michigan Downtown Association (MDA) meetings and training programs. |
Attend training offered through the MSU-E Citizen Planner Program and Michigan Association of Planning. |
