VILLAGE OF ELLSWORTH COUNCIL MINUTES

REGULAR MEETING

BANKS TOWNSHIP HALL

JULY 10, 2023

 

 

Present: Spearing, Dhillon, A. Drenth, Sowers, McCallum, Palajac and M. Drenth

 

Absent: Campbell and Potter

 

Others:  Jerry Rasmussen, Jacob Byrd

 

Meeting called to order by Spearing at 7:00pm

 

  1. Motion by McCallum, Sowers to accept the regular minutes as presented. CARRIED 6-0

 

PUBLIC INPUT:  Rasmussen raised concerns about the conditions of some of the properties in the Village.

 

DEPARMENTAL REPORTS: 

 

  1. Police: One of the radar signs is not working properly and Chief Byrd is working on the issue.

 

  1. DPW: N/A

 

  1. Streets: N/A

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

  1. DDA: There has been a great attendance at the two concerts taken place at the Concerts in the Square. During the concert you can now (by donation) purchase ice cream sandwiches and popcorn provided by the Pig Roast Committee.  The Wesleyan Church is providing water free of charge.  On behalf of the DDA, Spearing provided pictures of the various signage options they are reviewing.

 

  1. Planning Commission: No meeting in July 2023.

 

  1. Parks and Recreation: New picnic tables have arrived for Woodenshoe Park.  The summer recreation program is winding down for the season.  Drenth and Dhillon will meet with the director to discuss how the season went this year.

 

DISCUSSION:

 

  1. Paddle Antrim – The Paddle Antrim concert will not exceed $300.00.
  2. Wastewater project – On hold
  3. 2023 Pig Roast and the July 3, 2023, fireworks were each well attended. The Village received thank you notes from each of the organizations.
  4. Housing North presentation – A representative from the organization will be at the August meeting to discuss housing issues in the area.
  5. Zoning citations – Discussion about the best way to address zoning citations.
  6. Bike racks – The Village received a grant from the Cherry Capital Cycling Club which enabled us to buy three bike racks which will be placed in our parks.
  7. Truck route – Discussed the possibility of creating a designated truck route within the Village.
