VILLAGE OF ELLSWORTH COUNCIL MINUTES
REGULAR MEETING
BANKS TOWNSHIP HALL
NOVEMBER 13,2023
Present: Campbell, Dhillon, A. Drenth, Sowers, Spearing, McCallum and M. Drenth
Absent: Potter
Others: Police Chief Byrd, Jarris Rubingh, Jemima Rubingh, Betsy Randall, Jerry Rasmussen and Mike Bennett
Meeting called to order by Campbell at 7:00pm
- Motion by McCallum, Sowers to accept the regular minutes of October 9, 2023, as presented. CARRIED 6-0
PUBLIC INPUT:
- Discussion regarding firearms being discharged within the Village Limits. There will be notices posted and a reminder printed on water bills saying: No Hunting or Discharge of Firearms Within Village Limits.
DEPARMENTAL REPORTS:
- Police: Chief Byrd gave a list of repairs the Police Car needs. Discussion followed regarding a substation for the Village of Ellsworth.
- DPW: EGLE DWSRF FUNDING – Has been resubmitted.
- Streets: The paving has been completed for this year.
- DDA: Will have a retreat on Monday, November 20, 2023.
- Planning Commission: Did not meet.
- Parks and Recreation: N/A
DISCUSSION:
- Community Christmas Tree – The lights have been put on the tree.
- Wastewater project – Still in process.
- State of the Community Meeting – has not been scheduled at this time.
- Woodenshoe Holiday Fest 2023 – Has been cancelled.
- Committees and Rosters – Will remain the same except for new Trustee Michael Bennet replacing Phil Palajac who has moved from the area.
- Playground equipment – We have received a grant from Great Lakes Energy Peoples Grant Fund in the amount of $5,000.00. The grant was written by Spearing.
- Track – We have received a grant from Grand Traverse Track in the amount of $13,500.00 to resurface our track located at the Sports Field. The grant was written by Spearing.
- Hydrology Study – This is an ongoing study.
ACTION ITEMS:
- Motion by McCallum, Dhillon to appoint Mike Bennett to fill the open trustee position. CARRIED 6-0
- Motion by Spearing, McCallum to approve the budget amendments. CARRIED 6-0
- Motion by Sowers, Spearing to pay the bills. CARRIED 6-0
- Motion by Dhillon, McCallum to adjourn at 8:10pm. CARRIED 6-0
