VILLAGE OF ELLSWORTH COUNCIL MINUTES
REGULAR MEETING
BANKS TOWNSHIP HALL
AUGUST 14, 2023
Present: Spearing, McCallum, Palajac, Sowers, A. Drenth, Dhillon, Potter and Drenth
Absent: Campbell
Others: Jarris Rubingh, Scott Muma, Nancy Higbee and Jerry Rasmussen
Meeting called to order by Spearing at 7:00 pm.
- Motion by Sowers, Palajac to accept the July 10, 2023, regular minutes as presented. CARRIED 6-0
PUBLIC INPUT:
Commissioner Rubingh gave the annual County jail report. Discussed the lack of a camera at the recycling site.
Muma and Higbee discussed an issue with their neighbor crossing the property line between their houses. Also informed the Council about other building-related issues they felt were being performed illegally. Zoning Administrator McCallum will follow up on the issues they presented.
Rasmussen reported that a boat has been left at the Village dock for most of the summer preventing anyone else from using the launch site. Discussed the problem of the weeds growing in the lake.
Housing North plans to attend next month’s meeting.
DEPARMENTAL REPORTS:
- Police: Radar signs still are not working properly. Palajac and Spearing are going to set up a time to meet with Chief Byrd.
- DPW: Head of the DPW is in the process of getting bids from Reith Riley on some paving within the Village. Also gathering estimates for some work that needs to be done to the well.
- Parks/Recreation: The Woodenshoe Campground is having a busy summer.
- Planning Commission: Did not meet.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
- DDA: The Concerts in the Park were very well received. They continue to work on the new logo and new signage for the Village.
DISCUSSION:
- Paddle Antrim – The local womens group will continue to provide breakfast to the paddlers. The Village will continue to sponsor the kickoff event the night before the paddle.
- Wastewater project – Is currently waiting to hear on a grant application that has been submitted.
- Truck routes – Discussing which route will be the best for large trucks/semis passing through the Village.
- Playground equipment – Looking at which is the best option. Fix the current merry-go-round or replace it with a new one.
ACTION ITEMS:
- Motion by Dhillon, McCallum to prepay propane in the amount of $2,500.00 to Ellsworth Farmers Exchange. CARRIED 6-0
- Motion by Palajac, Sowers to pay the bills in the amount of $13729.41. CARRIED 6-0
- Motion by Sowers, McCallum to adjourn at 8:10 pm. CARRIED 6-0
