VILLAGE OF ELLSWORTH COUNCIL MINUTES

REGULAR MEETING

BANKS TOWNSHIP HALL

JANUARY 9, 2023   

 

Present: Campbell, Sowers, Spearing, McCallum, Palajac, A. Drenth, Dhillon, Potter, M. Drenth

Absent:

Others:  Police Chief Jacob Byrd, Jerry Rasmussen, Jarris Rubingh

Meeting called to order by Campbell at 7:00 pm.

  1. Motion by McCallum, Campbell to accept the December 12, 2022, regular minutes as presented. CARRIED 7-0

PUBLIC INPUT:  Jarris Rubingh, County Commissioner, updated the Village Council on the progress of the new building being constructed in Central Lake by the Antrim County Road Commission.

DEPARMENTAL REPORTS: 

 

  1. Police:Discussed arranging a date for Police Chief Byrd to be able to meet with Ellsworth Community School.
  2. Streets:N/A
  3. Parks/Recreation: N/A

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

  1. DDA:No meeting in December.  Holding a meeting January 12, 2023 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Banks Township Hall to discuss Branding (Logo) for the Village of Ellsworth.  Meeting is open to the public.
  2. Planning Commission: Will meet January 12, 2023.
  3. Finance Committee:Budget Committee meeting Tuesday January 10, 2023, at 6:00pm.

DISCUSSION:

 

  1. Millage rate for 2023 – Will remain the same as 2022 rate of 12.5 mills.
  2. Update Wastewater Project – Letter from USDA was handed out.
  3. Pig Roast 2023 – Campbell will attend Pig Roast Committee meeting.The committee is looking at the possibility of serving alcohol at the 2023 Pig Roast.
  4. Paddle Antrim – Moving forward
  5. Wage increases for Village employees was discussed. Cost of living figure for 2023 was discussed as a guideline to determine the amount of the increase.

  1. Motion by Campbell, McCallum to approve budget amendments. CARRIED 7-0
  1. Motion by Palajac, Dhillon to approve the use of the Village Backhoe for Township Clean-up Day in May 2023. CARRIED 7-0
  1. Motion by Palajac, Dhillon to rehire Sarah Essenberg as Summer Recreation Director.CARRIED 7-0
  1. Motion by McCallum, Sowers to pay the bills. CARRIED 7-0
  1. Motion by Campbell, Sowers to adjourn at 7:55pm.CARRIED 7-0
