VILLAGE OF ELLSWORTH DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY REGULAR MEETING
January 27, 2020

Meeting called to order at 5:04 p.m. by Rusty Powers, Chairperson

  • Members Present: Rusty Powers, Jan Rasmussen, Mary Peterson, Marci Palajac, Mary Faculak, Judy Worgess and Julie Waterman

  • Members Absent: Hugh Campbell and Tina Sundelius

  • Others Present: Lynn Spearing

    Agenda: Moved by Peterson to approve the meeting agenda, seconded by Rasmussen. Motion carried by unanimous consent.

    Meeting Minutes: Moved by Worgess to approve the minutes from the December 16, 2019 regular meeting, seconded by Peterson. Motion carried by unanimous consent.

    Treasurer’s Report: Peterson reported that the DDA has no financial accounts or funds at this time.

    Village of Ellsworth Report: In the absence of Village President, Hugh Campbell, Lynn Spearing reported Dollar General has purchased the land on C48 (The Breezeway) and is finalizing plans to build. There will be a public hearing on this property and Spearing will be looking into the Zoning Ordinance.

    The Sewer Project is moving along slowly. There will be a lagoon system put in and will be inconspicuous.

    There are plans for the Shooks building to be torn down.

    Spearing confirmed that there will be no dispensaries in Ellsworth.

    Committee Reports:

  • Water Trail Initiative: Faculak reported that Paddle Antrim has put in an offer for a part time

    marketing position. Paddle events are in the planning stage.

  • Blight Control: Powers reported that the Shooks building tear down is moving forward.

    E.A.G.L.E. will be coming in to test to be able to give a thorough assessment.

  • Ellsworth Beautification: Worgess will plan to brainstorm at the next meeting to come up

    with an event to encourage beautifying the Village.

  • Business Retention and Recruitment: Faculak reported that the Breezeway Paddle Sports

    will be opening for the summer season in Ellsworth. Waterman reported that the Farmer’s Market will be holding a get together which is yet to be announced. The purpose will be to discuss the Farmer’s Market plans for the upcoming season.

Old Business:

• Open discussion for future projects. Spearing suggested the DDA work on ideas for the vacant Ellsworth Market. Faculak announced that signage for the water trails will be a project she is actively working on.

New Business:

  • 2020 Pig Roast Theme Brainstorming: The DDA has been asked to come up with a theme

    for the 2020 Pig Roast. We brainstormed and came up with Pigs and Paddles. It was

    suggested that the Grand Marshal could be Paddle Antrim.

  • Reappointment of Current DDA Members: Waterman announced that every November we

    reappoint any members whose terms are about to expire. Faculak motioned and Worgess seconded that we reappoint Mary Peterson whose term is for four years and Tina Sundelius whose term is for four years.

  • New Ellsworth Business Guest/Breezeway Paddle Sports: Since Breezeway Paddle Sports was not in attendance, it was motioned by Waterman to table these guests and seconded by Faculak.

    Public Comments:

• No public comment.

Motion to adjourn at 7:08 p.m. by Faculak and seconded by Waterman. Motion carried by unanimous consent.

The next regular meeting will be held Monday, February 24, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the Banks Township Hall located at 6520 Center Street in Ellsworth. 231-588-7411.
